Cherry, Bekaert
& Holland has been a great place for me to work. I
started work in the Richmond office my summer after graduating
with my Master's in Accounting from UNC- Chapel Hill (home
of the greatest basketball program in NCAA history), and
I am still here some 20 years later.
My focus has primarily been tax-oriented, although I did
get a heavy dose of A&A work my first four or five
years. I might now have fully appreciated it at the time,
but I know the A&A experience has helped me to be
a better all-around professional.
One of the best parts of working in our firm is getting
to know people who work in other offices. As the current
Director of Tax for the firm, I have always been given
a great deal of firm-wide responsibilities and I have
enjoyed working with folks from throughout the firm on
various committees and initiatives. Plus, it is always
fun to meet up with all of your friends at our annual
summer gathering for all tax personnel. |

On a personal
note, I am an avid sports fan and am the resident
stat expert on Tarheel hoops, the Redskins, and
the woesome O’s (boo Yankees!). For exercise,
I enjoy walking my two mutts, hiking, road biking,
traditional gym workouts, plus I’ve added
hot yoga to the mix over the last few years. I also
play a lot of pick-up baseball, football, and basketball
with my two sons (currently ages 9 and 6) and their
friends. I also used to be a pretty hardcore rock-climber
until I started having youth sports coaching assignments
most weekends. So to summarize, anything but golf!
I greatly enjoy reading, especially world literature
(think Faulkner and Dostoyevsky) and philosophy
(think Kierkegaard and Tillich). For a hobby, I
collect and “play at playing” old acoustic
guitar blues (think Lightnin’ Hopkins and
Blind Willie McTell.) |

Cherry, Bekaert
& Holland is the perfect size firm for someone wanting
the life balance of a smaller firm with all the resources
of a larger firm. I began my career at a national firm
in Atlanta, GA after graduating from the University of
Georgia in 1996. After my wedding in April 2000, I moved
to Augusta, GA and joined the Cherry, Bekaert & Holland team as an Audit
Manager. It was important to me to find a firm that allowed
me to balance my time between work, family, and friends
while still pursuing a challenging career.
At Cherry, Bekaert & Holland , I feel like I can actually
make a difference in the firm versus just getting lost
in the shuffle of a larger firm. Presently, I am serving
on three firm-wide committees, the Audit Efficiency Task
Force, the Go Audit/Engagement Manager Committee and the
CPE Committee. |

| My firm-wide
involvement has helped me to build relationships
and network with professionals throughout the region.
Although we have many offices throughout the Southeast,
we work together as a team to build "One Firm." |

At Cherry, Bekaert & Holland,
I have the opportunity to have a challenging and fulfilling
professional career. However, the firm recognizes the
need to balance professional and personal lives, and encourages
me to work on maintaining a comfortable balance. I try
to maintain this balance by playing golf whenever possible,
reading, and playing the piano.
The depth of technical support and dedication to employee
welfare were the two main reasons we choose to merge our
firm with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland in July 1999.
Since becoming a Cherry, Bekaert & Holland partner
I have found that concern for quality, from work product
to employee benefits, begins at the top and is carried
through all levels of the firm.

| My accounting
career began as a staff accountant with a South
Carolina regional firm, to a local firm as principal,
and to my own firm as a partner for 9 years. As
a female partner in Cherry, Bekaert & Holland,
I believe it is very important that opportunities
be provided within Cherry, Bekaert & Holland
for young women to excel and grow into management
positions. Opportunities abound for anyone with
the technical capabilities and the desire to obtain
the necessary management skills. |

Who a person
works with is as important as the company and location
where that person works. It is a trite, yet understated
message to say, "People make the difference."
Although all accounting and professional service firms
attempt to differentiate themselves from one another,
the core principles of the industry remain the same. In
my experience with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, I have found that it is the
talents, attitudes, and warmth of the people of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland
that make the difference.
My career with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland began with
the audit department performing governmental and not-for-profit
audits with the knowledge that I would |

be rotated
into the tax department specializing in professional
service entities and their owners. As my involvement
and responsibilities grew within the tax department,
the parts of my job that I most enjoyed were the
advisory services that I was able to provide to
the client and the interaction and trust that was
gained. At the same time, a great sense of camaraderie
was built with my peers in the office. Now, as I
embark upon a new endeavor that will provide me
with a broader perspective of the firm with the
audit team, I am heartened by the people around
me and the faith that the partners have placed in
me.
I was born and raised in Macon, Georgia and received
a BS in Accounting from Wake Forest University.
In my spare time I enjoy fly-fishing, live music,
and sporting events. Volunteering with Hands on
Charlotte gives me a chance to give back to the
community. |
